Maria the Shepherdess

A chance encounter whilst exploring the Chinchero region, just outside of Cusco, Peru. Maria appeared as I crested a hill of this beautiful area, it was a photo opportunity I could not resist so after introducing myself and chatting a while I asked if I could snap some shots, to which she obliged.

Blue Hour at Portland Head Lighthouse

Some of the most famous residents of the Andes are the South American camelids, this family has 4 members and the llama is possibly the most famous of those.

King Penguis on Prion Island, South Georgia

Maybe the most entertaining of all the wildlife on South Georgia are the king penguins, they regularly go from regal and majestic to awkward and slapstick in the space of a second.

Condor and Glacier

Shot at Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina, during a visit this resident Andean Condor decided to show off a little by flying laps around the glacier, as the largest flying bird in the world it was certainly an impressive sight

Apu Ausangate

The largest and one of the most important mountains in the Cusco region of Peru. Important mountains such as Ausangate are given the title 'Apu' by the native people to signify their respect for it. The Andean people rely heavily on the mountains as the glaciers are their source of fresh water, they live on and farm the lands surrounding them and hold ceremonies where they make offerings and ask for good harvest.

Ausangate by Night

Nights in the Andes can show an unprecedented number of stars, given the altitude, remoteness of locations, lack of light pollution etc. The Inca were avid star gazers and there is no wonder why!

Humpback Breaching in Antarctica

Nature is a humbling thing, especially whilst in one of the most naturally raw places in the world to see a 30 ton humpback whale start launching itself from the water only metres from your tiny boat!

This is a composite shot, the foreground taken at the famous and distinctive Hallgrimskirkja Church in Reykjavik, Iceland. The sky shot during a beautiful aurora display in Iceland.

Chicon at Sunset

Last light of the day hits the mountain Chicon that dominates the skyline of the Chinchero region outside of Cusco, Peru.

Early Morning at the Cusco Cathedral

Shot on Cusco's Plaza de Armas as the sun rises behind Cusco's main cathedral otherwise known as La Catedral Basilica de la Virgen de la Asuncion.

Apu Salkantay

Salkantay, one of the great mountains of the Cusco region. The name Salkantay comes from the native language Quechua, meaning Wild or Savage Mountain. This photo was shot on a cloudy day in the moment that the peak finally made an appearance and the light started to hit it.

Antarctic Golden Hour

This Panorama I shot off the Antarctic Peninsula during golden hour. The landscapes of Antarctica are wild and beautiful and are often overlooked for the incredible wildlife present, but I wanted to try to capture some of the landscape as well.

Icelandic Highlands from the Air

The highlands of Iceland are maybe the most otherworldly landscapes that the island possesses. This almost martian territory, sculpted by volcanic activity is dotted with bright blue glacial lakes, rivers and pops of vibrant greens and yellows from the moss growing there.

Antarctic Peace

Shot in the Lemaire Channel, Anarctica. This stretch of ocean is lined with mountains and glaciers, which also protect it from the elements, meaning you can see very calm waters there, perfect for tranquil reflection shots!

Diamond Beach Sunrise

Shot at Diamond Beach, Iceland. This spot is well known by photographers, it's here you can find many chunks of ice washed up on the beach, debris from a nearby glacier. It's beautiful to capture the tide as it washes in and out amongst those pieces of ice.

Sunrise in Cusco

The only way to see the Plaza de Armas of Cusco like this is to get the EARLY. As the main hub of Cusco it is the busiest place in the city daily, but when experiencing the plaza first thing in the morning it has such a peace about it. It's wonderful to spend time amongst the beautiful colonial architecture, bathed in the early morning light with no one else there.

Misty Yosemite Falls

It was a moody day in Yosemite National Park, but mood tends to make for the best photos! I saw the mist gathering around Yosemite Falls and knew I had to capture it, I used a long lens to crop right in to the composition and capture the details and layers.

Winter Sunrise in Yosemite

Visiting Yosemite at any peak time of the year will see thousands of other visitors, these crowds can detract somewhat from the experience. Off-peak times such as December mean you can almost have the whole park to yourself, and winter in Yosemite also lends a lot of charm to the place. This particular sunrise was a mad rush to find a composition as the light was starting to look good, I noticed these frozen patches of grass that I tried out and ended up adding to quite a unique scene.

Sunrise in Maine

A beautiful sunrise shot at the Portland Head Lighthouse in Maine. I used an exposure time of 0.6 seconds to capture the water movement whilst focus stacking to preserve sharpness throughout the image.

Gentoo and Chicks

Taken at one of Antarctica's gentoo penguin colonies in January. At this time there were many young chicks such as these with their parents.

Sunrise in the Canadian Rockies

Shot in Jasper National Park during my time in Canada, on this particular morning I was at the beginning of a coast to coast hitch hiking trip across Canada. Thus far I had made it from Vancouver to Jasper and upon arrival spent the night camped here. I woke on this particular morning to clean, fresh mountain air and beautiful morning light, I snapped this shot of the scene below me before I moved down to the riverside to prepare myself some breakfast.

A Doorway to the Stars

A night spent high above the Sacred Valley of Peru. This Inca doorway is known locally as the Intipunku and sits directly across from the mountain Veronica, the highest peak in the Cordillera Urubamba.

Laguna Juchuycocha by Night.

A night at 4600m above sea level, the mountain Chicon and its glacier sits above the lake Laguna Juchuycocha. An almost full moon that night allowed for beautiful illumination of the foreground.

Blue Hour on Tower Bridge

Taken on the iconic Tower Bridge in London (often mistaken for London Bridge) I just had to try to capture a classic red London bus as it passed by.

Sunrise at Durdle Door

England's Jurassic coast is famous for two things: it's beauty and the high quantity of prehistoric findings to be seen there. This particular shot was taken at a popular location called Durdle Door, many people have likened the limestone arch to a dragon taking a drink from the ocean.
